Hello. I’m Hiro Kashihara, owner of Konohino Shop and a sculptural artist.

When you hear the word “artist,” what kind of image comes to mind?
Perhaps someone like a hermit, quietly working away in the mountains, far from civilization.
Or maybe the polished, sparkling image you often see on social media.
Either way, I imagine some people may feel that the world of artists exists somewhere separate from their everyday lives.
But in reality, artists are nothing extraordinary.
We are simply ordinary people who spend our days facing the work of making things.
That’s why, at Konohino Shop, I have placed my own workbench right in front of our customers.
I want you to feel our work, and the people behind it, as something close to you—an extension of everyday life.
The tools I use, hand-drawn designs, scraps of metal cut away during the making process, unfinished pieces… and even piles of failed attempts.
I hope the space allows you to feel, in some small way, the breath and presence of making things.
And of course, if I’m working in the shop, please feel free to come and talk to me.
I look forward to sharing conversations with you about making, about the works, and about all the little things along the way.
